The assessment of the proper response to the possible
determination of how real the danger is. There are
more devastating to life on this planet (e.g., an asteroid
collision), but we regard those as too unlikely
to worry about.
The existence of skepticism on this issue has only
recently been publicly recognized. Whatever the truth
may turn out to be, there is an unusual degree of
extremism associated with this issue.
